Buana Carbon Report 2025: Cutting Emission Nearly 44%

Buana Carbon Report 2025: Cutting Emission Nearly 44%

Why GHG Matters

For three consecutive years, Buana has been measuring and reporting its GHG emissions across Scope 1, 2, and 3. This is not a compliance exercise but rather a management tool to track performance, promote best practices, and guide internal development such as productivity evaluation and efficiency improvements. As a keruing manufacturer in Indonesia, Buana believes that what gets measured gets managed, and what gets managed can improve.

The Numbers That Matter

Between 2023 and 2025, Buana achieved a cumulative 44% reduction in total GHG emissions. That is not a typo, nearly half of the company's carbon footprint eliminated in just three years.

Even more telling is the emission-to-production ratio, which dropped from 0.38 to 0.36 in 2025. This parameter measures the efficiency of energy and fuel used compared to each cubic meter of wood products produced. A decreasing ratio means one thing: Buana's production efficiency is genuinely improving, with less carbon per board, more value per resource.

2025 Highlights: Targeting Process and Power

The past year brought focused reductions across two critical areas. Buana developed its production line and successfully reduced process emissions, primarily from adhesive use and chemicals, by 35.29%. Meanwhile, Scope 2 emissions dropped 8.78% through better shift scheduling and machinery efficiency.

These are not accidental savings. They are the result of deliberate operational choices. We are adjusting when machines run, optimizing how adhesive is applied, and finding waste and cutting it from the process.

Why Does This Matters for Hardwood Manufacture?

For Indonesia hardwood manufacturers operating in global markets, GHG emission transparency is no longer optional. Buana's GHG report serves as evidence of environmental stewardship. Through consistent tracking and reporting, the company commits not just to responsible practice for itself, but to becoming a new benchmark for sustainable timber manufacture across Southeast Asia.

Continuous Improvement

A carbon reduction is worth celebrating but Buana is not stopping. The reporting system itself continues to evolve, capturing more data, identifying new inefficiencies, and pushing the team to ask better questions.

Every carbon molecule saved represents a smarter process, a more thoughtful use of resources, and a deeper commitment to the forests that sustain this business. Buana intends to keep counting, keep improving, and keep proving that responsible keruing manufacture in Indonesia is possible at scale.
